Rangers Supposedly Place Drury on Injured Reserve (Update- Inaccurate Per Gross)

Somehow this has gone under the radar in all of Ranger-land, but Larry Brooks of the New York Post reported earlier today that the New York Rangers have placed captain Chris Drury (concussion) on Injured Reserve. What does this mean? Allow me to explain....

When a player is put on injured reserve, it simply means that the team receives compensation for the individual's salary for the time being, in which they can use to find a replacement in that position. Whoever this replacement may be, their salary will not count against the cap ceiling, but once the injured player returns, the team must immediately once again meet the cap standards.

In other words, the Rangers will receive money to find a replacement for Drury until he returns to the lineup, which does not seem like it will be anytime soon. However, they must be within the cap restrictions once Chris is back. Who may this replacement be? I am not too sure just yet, and I know Forsberg is now out of the picture as he announced today that he would remain in Sweden, playing hockey there.

If this is true, as it has not been confirmed by any other sources other than Brooks, it is clear that the Rangers intend on Drury being out of the lineup for quite a while. I will be sure to update if it is reported anywhere else, but for now, we must take this for what it is worth.

Update: Andrew Gross has tweeted that he believes this is untrue. We will see if anything comes of it in the next few days, but as of now, a false alarm from Larry Brooks.

Not too sure just yet. I mean, there was talk of teh Rangers being interested in the Kostitsyn brothers, but in my eyes, they are nothing but trouble.

we have 8mil plus on our hands that we can use y wud we get 2 struggling players from monstreal that are both wingers and we have 2 centers injured. we could replace dubinsky with parentau and drury can ber repalced a a star center so that way prosal can play the wing with gaboerik and we can have areally good first line since the rest of the team doesn't get any scoring done
