The New York Rangers have traded forward Wojtek Wolski (and his $3.8 million cap hit) to the Florida Panthers in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2013 draft and AHL defenseman Mike Vernace, per TSN.
Wolski only played in nine games for the Blueshirts this season due to injuries, and with all of the time he spent on injured reserve, his roster spot on the team quickly vanished into thin air. He doesn't fit head coach John Tortorella's system nor does he fit the personality of the Rangers, so there were no other options here but to let him go. At the same time, it's nice to see him go to a club in which he will likely get an opportunty to play.
Wolski was acquired by the Rangers last season in a deal that sent defenseman Michal Rozsival to the Phoenix Coyotes. He recorded six goals and 22 points in 46 games as a Ranger.
