We've been so caught up in our player reviews, free agent previews and the Stanley Cup Playoffs as of late that we have not had the chance to update you on the progress of the renovations taking place at Madison Square Garden this offseason. With today being Memorial Day and everything in the hockey world on hold, I thought this would be a great opportunity to share some pictures that MSG has recently released from inside the Garden during the renovation.
WARNING: If you do not want to see your beloved arena in complete shambles, turn back. Turn back now!
Too late.
The first major step in the Garden's renovation is the transformation of the lower bowl. That is what you see in the picture above, and clearly all of the seats have been stripped, the rink has been ripped up and the 'behind the scenes' area below the arena has also been cleared.
A closer look at the lower bowl being totally wiped out and destructed. I can only imagine the amount of dust that is flying around in there while this is going on. I would assume the workers are wearing protective masks over their mouth and nose.
Believe it or not, that is (or used to be) the Rangers' locker room. If you look towards the back on the left, you can still see the red, white and blue stripes painted along the walls. Both the Ranger and Knick locker rooms will be rebuilt this summer as part of the lower bowl renovation.
MSG lists that the following will be ready for the 2011-12 season:
- Lower Bowl
- Madison Concourse (6th Floor)
- Event Level Suites
- Delta Sky360 Club
- Locker Rooms
The entire renovation is expected to be complete, in its entirety, for the 2013-2014 season. For more information on the renovation (also the place where I got the above pictures from), head on over to msgtransformation.com. Enjoy the holiday and your day off and be sure to swing by tomorrow as we resume our 2010-11 player reviews with Sean Avery.
