As you may have known, the National Hockey League continues to delay the official announcement of the 2012 Winter Classic between the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers at Citizens Bank Park in Philly as some minor details continue to be worked out.
But, that doesn't stop us from getting some sort of confirmation. The Flyers and Chairman Ed Snider released the following for a donation to a charity golf tournament to put up for auction, clarifying some dates about the Winter Classic in the process...
It was already known that the 2012 Winter Classic would be held on January 2 since it was stated in the NHL's released regular season schedule earlier this summer. However, this is the first time we are hearing about the Alumni Game, which has been a tradition since the first Classic was played between the Penguins and Sabres.
I'm excited to see who makes up the Alumni team for the Blueshirts, but I think you can count on the likes of Mark Messier, Adam Graves, Mike Richter, Brian Leetch, Ron Duguay, Rod Gilbert and Jeff Beukeboom to all be on the roster for starters. Oh and maybe a guy by the name of Wayne Gretzky will be invited as well. Automatic win?
So now that the game has been confirmed, well, somewhat confirmed, all we are waiting on are the much anticipated jerseys. Remember, the Rangers themselves have confirmed that all rumored jerseys floating around out there are fakes. I'm personally hoping they are a white version of the existing heritage jerseys, but we shall see.
H/t to Puck Daddy for finding this....
