We reported yesterday that the Rangers had acquired Swedish defensive prospect Tim Erixon from the Calgary Flames in exchange for two second-round draft picks and forward Roman Horak. Afterwards, Rangers GM Glen Sather, Flames GM Jay Feaster, and Erixon himself spoke about the deal.
Sather:
"Tim is an outstanding young defenseman with good size and mobility," stated Sather. "He plays a complete, all-around game, and we feel he is an excellent addition to our developing, young defense corps."
Feaster:
"Once we realized we were not going to be able to come to terms...we wanted to make sure we turned that pick into an asset"
Erixon:
"It is obviously very large and very unexpected. But it's a dream come true. This is one of the greatest days of my life, " says Tim.
Also, below is video sneak preview of what is to come from Tim....
The Rangers were apparently overflowing with excitement when they got their hands on this kid, so I think they are pretty confident in his abilities. Like I said, the Rangers are in need of an outstanding offensive defensemen, and Erixon certainly has the potential to become one. Now we'll see if Sather has any other moves lined up for some of the other extra defensive prospects to be traded.
Stay tuned...
