Gaborik Update, Cuts to be Made Later Today

As I mentioned earlier, Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants "tweeted" that Marian Gaborik participated in his first scrimmage of training camp today, and beat Henrik Lundqvist for a goal seven minutes into the game.

"For the first scrimmage, it felt pretty good and it was a good skate afterwards and workout," Gaborik said. "I didn't push myself all the way but it's on the right track."

Ranger fans can now take a deep breath, knowing that Gaborik is skating in team scrimmages, and has mentioned that he is looking to play in Monday's pre-season game against the Detroit Red Wings.

It was just Sunday that we received the horrid news of Gaborik supposedly "tweaking" his groin, but it seems like the minor injury has began to heal itself, so now Marian will take his time, letting this thing fully recover before he steps into NHL action, whether it be pre-season or regular season.

Also, after the conclusion of this afternoon's scrimmage, head coach John Tortorella and the rest of his staff are scheduled to announce the players that have been cut from the camp squad, and the players that will get a further look, and make a step forward on the path to the 2009-10 Ranger roster.

It will be interesting to see what the decision is on Bobby Sanguinetti, after struggling through the fitness part of camp, and being scratched in each pre-season game thus far. I, personally, do not expect to see him get cut, but Torts may have other plans.

As soon as the cuts are announced, I will be sure to have them up on the site, so check back here for that, later this afternoon.
