Gaborik on Pace to Break Franchise Record

Granted, we are only fifteen games into the season and Gaborik has already missed two due to injury, but the offensive star is on pace to break Jaromir Jagr's franchise record of most goals in a single season with 54 in 2005-06. Gaborik has recorded eleven goals in thirteen games played with the Rangers this season, putting him in the 60-70 range assuming he can stay healthy. Just to think that in the team's 85 year history, not one individual was able to net more than 54 goals in a season, and now Marian Gaborik has that opportunity and is currently on pace to do so is nothing short of phenomenal.

As we know, Gaborik's problem throughout his career has been his health, which pretty much has prevented him from scoring 50 goals in a single season already. Gaborik is gifted with skill that cannot be taught, he was just simply born with it, much like Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, Ilya Kovalchuk, and other superior players in the National Hockey League.

This past off-season, the Blueshirts were seeking a game-breaker for the first time since the departure of Jaromir Jagr, leaving General Manager Glen Sather with no choice but to sign Marian Gaborik, and so far, he has not been a disappointment by any means. Tortorella has used the Slovakian star in almost all situations including the powerplay, the penalty kill, and overtime, in addition to the twenty plus minutes of ice time he receives nightly in regulation.

Do I believe that Gaborik can break the 54 goal record? Without a doubt, as long as he plays in at least seventy games this season. Just to put things in perspective for you, Gaborik is tied for second in the league in goals scored with Patrik Marleau of the Sharks, right behind Alex Ovechkin who currently has 14 on the season. Marian sits in fifth place in points with 19, with Rick Nash, Anze Kopitar, Patrik Marleau, and Alex Ovechkin filling the 1-4 slots. Just by looking at the names that Gaborik is being grouped with here is outstanding, let alone viewing his rank in the entire NHL in these statistics. Gaborik has also had the help of the third best dish-master in the league in Vinny Prospal to continuously set him up for prime scoring opportunities.

After each season, the Rangers vote on team MVP, and for the past couple of years it has obviously went to Henrik Lundqvist. With that being said, I feel that this year may be the first in which Lundqvist can have his title jeopardized at the hands of Marian Gaborik, if Gabs can hit the 50 goal mark. It has been so much fun watching this guy play, but it will make the experience ten times better if we can see him surpass a franchise record held by one of the best players to ever lace up the skates in the history of the NHL.

i think u r right i pray to god he stays healthy. this may be unrelated but...i think rangers could be a cup contender if we buy out redden and drury. this is rozivals last year in his contract. so thats redden 6, rozy 5 drury 8 so thats 19m free in our. cap. we could sign 2 defencemen that dont cost us a goal everygame. and then sigh another superstar player like gaborik or just a coiple of 20 goal scorers. When gaborik missed 2 games rasngers were nothing offensivley so i think we need more scores exept gaborik

Yes, I use this example a lot, but look at the duo every contending team had on offense last year:

Philly- Carter and Richards
Pittsburgh- Crosby and Malkin
Detroit- Datsyuk and Zetterberg
Chicago: Toews and Kane

All four of the above teams made it to the Conference finals, and they all have two stars on offense. That is what the Rangers need in the future in order to be contenders.
