According to a recent tweet from Jim Cerny of the Rangers Official Website, the Rangers have named forward Vinny Prospal as the second Alternate Captain next to Ryan Callahan. Callahan was given the "A" in early October, and coach John Tortorella said that he would not hand a second one out until someone stepped up and earned it. Well, Prospal has displayed his leadership not only through his a-plus statistics so far this season, but also on the bench when he is constantly teaching the young players each and every game.
Prospal brings a limitless amount of effort and energy to this team, as well as his own personal intensity that the Rangers have not had in quite some time. In my eyes, I felt Vinny was the best choice all the way, and am very pleased with the Rangers decision to allow their top playmaker to wear the "A". I would assume that we will see Prospal with the letter on his chest for the first time tonight in Vancouver.

good job by torts in giving vinny the A he def deserves it the way he has been playing.Maybe he can strip the C from Druy now and give it to someone that is a true leader on the team.I lIke the A going to Cali in the begining but maybe its putting to much pressure on him cause he has not been playing very well on the offensive side of the puck and sometimes he is slacking on D
prospal gets it and gaborik doesn't??? this suprises me because gaborik carried the rnagers offense on his shoulders the whole season and even though these 2 make a good dou prospal is nothing without gaborik and we saw against the isles and the wild when he was out. i think gaborik should have got the a

I hope that it is not the "A" that is preventing Callahan from being himself. As for Prospal, he is a veteran so I do not foresee any problems with being the alternate.

You must keep in mind that the Captaincy is not always based on skill, but rather personality. Something that Prospal has a lot of. If it was based on skill, our friend Drury would not wear the "C".
