Lisin, Voros Scratched, Johnson Recalled

Andrew Gross has reported via twitter that the New York Rangers have recalled goaltender Chad Johnson and have reassigned Matt Zaba to the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL). This move was expected, as Johnson was sent down to Hartford only to get a start last night and see some action after filling in as Henrik Lundqvist's back-up for the past week or so. It has been speculated that Johnson will get his first career National Hockey League start on Thursday at Nassau Coliseum in the second of a home and home with the Islanders. Zaba will likely be in net for the Pack against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Saturday night.

Enver Lisin and Aaron Voros will be the healthy scratches when the Blueshirts host the Buffalo Sabres at Madison Square Garden. I think it is time Glen Sather finds a way to rid himself of Voros (waivers would be the best way) because there is no point in keeping him and his $1 million cap hit if Tortorella chooses to scratch him night in and night out. As for Lisin, he hasn't really used his speed to his advantage while in the lineup, so forward P.A. Parenteau will get the nod instead.

Henrik Lundqvist is expected to be in net tonight against Buffalo.

Pregame coming later.....

Parenteau will drive to the net whereas Lisin seems to have only an outside move. That may explain it but what I hope Tortorella is doing is giving Parenteau an honest shot at making or failing to make this team. That means playing him on one of the top three lines and giving him some time, not relegating him to the fourth line. He is not a fourth line player and will not succeed there. As for Voros, you are 1000% correct: It is time to bite the bullet and get him off the roster.

Unfortunately, for the time being, Parenteau will be playing on the fourth line. I do not agree with it and think he should be up on the third instead of Brian Boyle. There is no reason for Boyle to be on the third line.

i honestly think we should try attempt to trade lisn voros and maybe somone else for a top of the line forward or back up goalie. They need to get another forward to hopefully fire gabs up again. It seems the league got him figured out now stay on top of him and he won't do anything. Maybe they need to split prospal and gabs up and see if something happens. The first line could be higgy avery and gabs. Maybe put drury on the line for now to be the center. Just until dubinsky comes back anyway.

Actually, if they play Boyle on the wing, I disagree that he should be a fourth liner. I put him in the same class as Parenteau meaning give them a fair try at what they do best, then either they make the team or they become excess parts to hopefully trade or otherwise move out. I think Boyle looked good in Chicago as a winger. He looked faster and he used his size to knock people off the puck. If he does that and can also learn to go to the net to screen and play garbage man, he will be a very valuable asset. He will never learn those things centering the fourth line. I must repeat again: Tortorella is clueless. This crazy mixing and matching of combinations leads nowhere. His team lacks toughness and grit both up front and on the blue line. It is painful to watch.

@Blueshirt4Ever:

First off, welcome to the site as we are happy to have you. Secondly, I agree with you totally. A trade needs to be made for a back-up goaltender and maybe Lisin could be a trading piece.

What I meant is that I feel Parenteau should get the nod over Boyle on the third line if it comes down to either. But with the way Kotalik has played, I would like to see Anisimov centering Boyle and Parenteau with Kotes on the fourth. :)

Just finished watching the Buffalo game. Not a stinker by any means. But the pattern of failure becomes clearer and clearer. The last NYR power play was embarrassing. Neither the puck nor the players really moved; it was static. The whole idea of a power play is to force the defendaers to play catch up until someone loses a check or the goalie falls a step behind, then fire. These guys all stand around watching and it was their best opportunity to tie it up. To me, this is both a personnel problem and a coaching problem.

You are dead on. Powerplay was horrible in the third period, and then Torts decides to pull Kotalik from the point on the last one.

Anyway, the postgame analysis is up wo we can continue the discussion there if you'd like.
